British War Medal 1914-20 (44822 Pte. A. E. Hampton Essex R.) minor official correction to surname; Memorial Plaque (Arthur Ernest Hampton), in card envelope of issue; Memorial Scroll (Pte. Arthur Ernest Hampton Essex Regt.) the last in postal tube addressed to ‘Mrs J. Hampton, 119 Parkfield Road, Wolverhampton’, generally very fine or better (lot) £80-£120

Arthur Ernest Hampton was born in Hurst Hill, Staffordshire. He initially served during the Great War with the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment, before transferring to the 10th (Service) Battalion, Essex Regiment. Hampton was killed in action serving on the Western Front, aged 18, 27 August 1918. He is buried in the Becourt Military Cemetery, Somme, France.

Sold with the recipient’s monumental Family Bible, with commentaries and explanatory notes, the whole edited by Rev. John Eadie, with a series of coloured plates and other illustrations, and complete with a Family Register at the start, bound in heavy leather covers, with gilt securing plates,
the front cover almost detached, some light foxing, otherwise good condition
