Frank Ellis Hattersley was born in Sheffield, Yorkshire, and attested for the South Lancashire Regiment at Birmingham. He served with the 8th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front, and was killed in action on 8 July 1916. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.

Samuel Thomas was born in Manchester and attested for the South Lancashire Regiment at Warrington, Lancashire. He served with the 1st/4th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front, and was killed in action on 8 June 1915. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
