An American Civil War Period Officer’s Presentation Sword, the 81 cm slightly curved bright blade by ‘Collins & Co., Hartford, Conn. 1862’, the blade with single fuller is etched with the American Eagle ‘Pluribus Unum’ trophies of arms and flags and ‘U.S’, further etching of foliate panels, wire bound leather over wood hand grip, ornate heavy gilt brass hand guard with pierced floral and foliate decoration, the leather bound metal scabbard with three ornate gilt brass mounts engraved with military trophies and strap work, the centre one with ‘US’, the top one with engraved panel ‘Presented to Lt. O.O’Donnell Coy ‘K’ 14th Conn. Inf. by the Officers Mess 14th June 1862’, the tooled leather with some loss and scuff marks otherwise good overall condition £400-600
