Yeomanry Officer’s Foul Weather Shako c. 1844-55, a most rare example, the light weight body covered with black oilskin, drooping bound black leather frontal peak, dummy boss at the top, sewn in silver cord cap lines and olivettes, silver plated velvet lined chin chain, small blackened metal rose pattern suspension hook at the rear, lion’s mask supports, buff leather sweat band, crimson silk lining with supplier’s label ‘Hamburger Rogers & Co., Gold Lace and Army Accoutrements Manufacturers by Appointment to the Queen, 30 King Street, Covent Garden, London’; together with an associated paper lined japanned metal carrying tin, two minute splits in the oil skin otherwise in exceptional condition for its age and rarity (2) £1500-2000
