Matthew Lee Peach enlisted in the Army Air Corps on 8 September 2005, and served as an Airtrooper with No. 654 Squadron, 4 Regiment Army Air Corps in Afghanistan during Operation Herrick 8 in 2008. It is likely that he received his medal from H.R.H. the Prince of Wales at a presentation ceremony at Wattisham Airfield, Suffolk, on 27 July 2009, when their Royal Highnesses the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall presented over 100 campaign medals to members of the unit for service during Herrick 8. He was discharged on 31 August 2010.
