The Hertfordshire Militia Officer’s 1855-61 Pattern Shako with Correct Pattern Carrying Tin, a good quality example, the black beaver body with sunken patent leather top, patent leather front and back peaks and bottom bracing band, the frontal plate in silver plate of crowned star pattern with two mounts a circle ‘Hertford Militia’ and ‘VR’ centre on a domed ground, buff leather sweat band and crimson silk lining, black patent leather chin strap of correct pattern, red over white ball plume and silver plated holder (this of 1861 pattern), the plate is original to the shako, the tin is un-named, very slight loss to the beaver covering, a small fracture in the top bracing band near the plume holder and the crimson silk lining with some grub damage, the lower section of the hasp missing on the tin £400-600
