Army Meritorious Service Medal, V.R. (Sgt. Instr. G. Hall. 36/Foot.) extremely fine £300-360

George Hall was born at Castle Donnington, Leicestershire, in 1827, and attested for the 36th Foot at Brockhall, Northants, on 27 November 1846, aged 19 years 6 months, a lace maker by trade. He was discharged at Netley on 25 May 1874, having served a total of 27 years 179 days with the 36th Foot, having been 2nd Class Instructor of Musketry for nearly 14 years. He served almost 21 years abroad, in the Ionian Islands, West Indies, and India. He afterwards served 5 years 67 days in the 1st Royal Cheshire Militia, and for a further 5 years in the 2nd Cheshire (Earl of Chester’s) Rifle Volunteers, being discharged on 11 December 1884. The award of the M.S.M. was announced in Army Order 67 of April 1899, with an annuity of £10. He died on 11 January 1908. Sold with detailed research, including copied discharge papers.
