A Great War M.M. group of three awarded to Private F. C. Keyzor, Lincolnshire Regiment, who died of wounds on 24 October 1918

Military Medal, G.V.R. (18587 Pte. F. C. Kezzor [sic]. 1/Linc: R.); British War and Victory Medals (18587 Pte. F. C. Zeyzor. Linc. R.) nearly extremely fine (3) £460-500

M.M. London Gazette 16 July 1918.

Frank Charles Keyzor was born in Belton, Norfolk, in 1897, and attested for the Lincolnshire Regiment at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, in August 1914. He served with the 1st Battalion during the Great War in the Balkan theatre of War from 1 December 1915 (additionally entitled to a 1914-15 Star), in Egypt, and on the Western Front. ‘Invalided home from France twice with a poisoned hand and trench fever, whilst at the front for the third time he was awarded the Military Medal for conspicuous bravery in carrying messages through heavy shell fire and gas attacks, which prevented the Germans from surrounding the Lincolns.’ (the recipient’s obituary in the Yarmouth Mercury refers).
Keyzor received a shell wound in action on 23 October 1918, during the Battalion’s advance on the River Harpies, and, admitted unconscious to the 46th casualty clearing station the following morning, died later that day. He is buried in Delsaux Farm Cemetery, France, and additionally commemorated on the Great Yarmouth War Memorial. In a letter written to Keyzor’s mother by Lance-Corporal Drew: ‘Words fail to express how deeply I and his chums feel to know that he has passed away. He was one of the best, a brave and fearless lad, who could be trusted in everything and whom we shall miss so much. He received his wounds from a shell whilst nobly carrying out his duties as a Battalion runner.’ (
