Frederick William Chipchase was born in Gateshead, Co. Durham, on 13 May 1912, and served with the 1st Battalion Royal Northumberland Fusiliers. He drowned whilst bathing at Scottsburg beach, whilst a patient at Renishaw Hospital, South Africa on 7 May 1941, and is commemorated on the Brookwood Memorial, Surrey.
