Three: Corporal S. Dixon, 12th Lancers

Lancers.) contemporarily engraved naming, with Second World War period replacement fixed straight bar suspension; Indian Mutiny 1857-59, no clasp (Corpl. Stnley Dixon 12th. Royl. Stanley Dixon was born in Liskard, Birkenhead, Cheshire, in 1827, and attested for the 4th Dragoon Guards at Ashton, Lancashire, in November 1845. He transferred to the 12th Lancers in May 1851, and served with the Regiment in South Africa during the Third Kaffir War (entitled to medal) and in the Crimea. Promoted Corporal on 30 April 1857, he saw further service with the Regiment in India during the great sepoy Mutiny, before transferring once more to the 1st Dragoon Guards on 1 February 1860. He was discharged in India on 17 March 1863, after 17 years and 112 days’ service, and died in India in April 1865, where he is buried at Washermanpettah, Madras Presidency.
