In the 2nd Amateur Boxing Association of England’s National Championship, held in London in April 1882, Harry Windett was defeated for the middleweight title by A.H. Cumick, from Clapton, even though the former “had the best of it when at close quarters until towards the finish” (The Times, 17 April 1882). By 1891 Windett had become a boxing referee
