Sidney George David Andrews was born at Kingsbridge, West Alvington, Devon, in April 1861, son of Lieutenant-Colonel Mottram Andrews, 28th Foot. He was appointed Sub-Lieutenant in the Royal Naval Reserve on 30 June 1891; Lieutenant R.N.R., 8 July 1891. He was Master in command of the steamship Sunda, of the Peninsula and Oriental Steam Navigation Company, during the Boxer rebellion and the Boer War (Medal with two Clasps). He is believed to be the only recipient of the Transport medal and the American Military Order of the Dragon. He was placed on the Retired List with rank of Commander on 17 December 1901. Commander Andrews died at Malta in April 1922, aged 61 years.
