Douglas Campbell Lawford was born on 29 March 1916 at regina, Sakatchewan. He attested for the Non-Permanent Active Militia of Canada on 20 April 1931 and served with the Canadian Corps of Signals. He attested for the Permanent Force of Canada on 31 August 1935 and served as a Signalman with the Royal Canadian Signals. During September 1939-September 1946 he actively served with Canadian Army and was appointed Acting Warrant Officer in December 1941. Commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in June 1944 and Lieutenant in May 1945. During the war he served in Canada, U.K. and Continental Europe. Awarded the C.V.S.M. with clasp and War Medal 1945. Served in the Canadian Army (Regular) from 1 October 1946. Promoted to Captain in December 1950. Awarded the Queen’s Medal for Champion Shot in Canada for the year 1954. Captain Lawford was honourably released from service on 29 March 1963. Served in the Canadian Army (Militia) - Canadian Scottish Regiment, with the rank of Major, December 1963-March 1965. In addition to the above mentioned he was also awarded the U.N.E.F. Medal and Canadian Decoration and Bar. He died at Nanaimo, British Columbia on 7 January 1987.
