Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Relief of Kimberley, Orange Free State, Transvaal (2496 Dr. R. Robinson, W. Riding Regt.) edge bruising and contact marks, good fine £100-140

Richard Robinson was born in Wighton, Cumberland, A Musician by occupation, he attested for the West Riding Regiment at Halifax on 16 April 1887, aged 14 years. Initially ranked as a Boy, he was appointed a Drummer in October 1889, a rank he held for most of his military career. He served overseas in Malta, September 1895-September 1898 and in South Africa, December 1899-October 1902. Drummer Robinson was slightly wounded in action at Klip Kraal, 16 February 1900. He re-engaged in February 1902 to complete 21 years service and was discharged at the termination of his second period of service in April 1910. Living at 10 Bedford Terrace, Halifax and employed as a Labourer, he re-enlisted into the Durham Light Infantry at Halifax on 27 March 1915, aged 40 years, 232 days. He later served in the Labour Corps. Entitled to clasps ‘South Africa 1901’ and ‘South Africa 1902’. With copied service papers.
