Private William Wallace Millichap, 2nd Battalion Worcestershire Regiment, entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 19 September 1914. The battalion formed part of the 5th Infantry Brigade, 2nd Division, in Haig’s I Army Corps and played a major role in the defence of the Ypres Salient on 22 October 1914 near Langemarck. The Worcesters were then involved in the recapture of Gheluvelt on 31 October 1914. Millichap died of blood poisoning from a wounded foot during the German bombardment of Hazebrouck, 16 November 1914. He was buried in the Hazebrouck Communal Cemetery, Nord, France. He was the son of Mr T. and Mrs C. Millichap, of 35 Mill Lane, Kidderminster. With copied research including copied extracts from the Kidderminster Shuttle bearing articles and pictures of William Millichap and his brother Joseph, also of the Worcesters, and likewise wounded in action.
