1914 Star (11748 Pte. J. Brown, 1/Notts. & Derby. R.); Defence Medal, unnamed, very fine (3) £80-100

James Brown enlisted into the Army on 3 January 1912. As Private 11748 in the 1st Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 4 November 1914 and qualified for the 1914 Star. With the 1st Sherwood Foresters he was wounded, suffering gunshot wounds to his right eye and left leg and was admitted to No. 10 General Hospital at Rouen. Having been transferred to the South Staffordshire Regiment as Private 21681, he was discharged due to wounds on 11 September 1916 and awarded the Silver War Badge.
