George Victor Roney was born in Battersea, London c.1890. A Clerk by occupation, he attested for the Australian Imperial Force on 30 October 1914 and was appointed to the 11th Battalion, 2nd Reinforcement A.I.F. The unit embarked from Freemantle, Western Australia on board H.M.A.T. A50 Itonus on 22 February 1915. By June 1915 he was serving in Gallipoli but the same month was invalided to Malta. He was able to return to Gallipoli in July where he was assigned to be part of the Permanent Beach Party, under the command of Captain C. A. Littler, 12th Battalion, Adjutant, Anzac Cove Area. Still suffering from a medical complaint he was invalided to Mudros in August 1915 and thence to the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, London in September 1915. In England he was promoted to Corporal March 1916 and Serjeant in February 1917 and served with the Army Pay Corps. Suffering from Anaemia, Serjeant Roney was discharged as unfit for service in England on 29 November 1917 and was awarded the Silver War Badge. George Victor Roney, of 4 Roe Green, Kingsbury, Middlesex died on 20 April 1938. Sold with a quantity of copied service papers and other research.
