The only other Black Watch recipient of the clasp ‘Relief of Ladysmith‘ was Major F. D. Murray who was killed at Brakenlaagte on 31 October 1901. Clasp for Laing’s Nek is also rare to the regiment.
Private Henry Orr was born in Dundee and attested for the Royal Highlanders at Perth on 4 May 1895. He served in South Africa from 22 October 1899 to 8 November 1902, and was discharged ‘time expired’ on 3 May 1907. He subsequently emigrated to America, where he settled in Massachusets and died there in 1963, aged 85 years. Sold with copied discharge papers which confirm both medals and clasps, and other family research.
