The unique group of three Regimental Decorations awarded to Sergeant Michael O'Neill, 88th Foot

88th FOOT ORDER OF MERIT, 1st class silver cross for 12 General Actions, the reverse attractively engraved 'Serjt. Michl. O'Neill' with a crowned '88' above, and the Irish harp within a wreath below, suspended from silver bar engraved 'Peninsula' (ref. Balmer R523a); 88th FOOT MEDAL FOR MILITARY MERIT AND GOOD CONDUCT 1817, silver, 38mm diameter, all engraved, on the obverse '88' within a circular band inscribed 'For Military Merit and Good Conduct' in the centre of an eight-pointed star, with 'Peninsular' below; reverse inscribed 'Awarded to Sergt. M. O'Neill 1817', with silver clip and bar for suspension (ref. Balmer R521); 88th FOOT MEDAL 1818, oval silver medal, 58mm x 75mm, all engraved, on the obverse the crowned Irish harp above '88', all within a wreath, 'Regiment of Foot' below; reverse inscribed 'Given by the Serjeants of The 88th Foot to Serjt. M. O'Neill, in commemoration of his many stirling qualities as a soldier and comrade, July 1818', hallmarked London, 1818, on the rim, with integral loop for suspension at the neck (ref.
