James Henry Eyre stated he was born on 2 November 1921. A Labourer by occupation, he enlisted into the Sherwood Foresters on 23 July 1939 - as he was actually born on 14 January 1925 he had illegally enlisted at the age of 14! Eyre was wounded and captured at Mature (Mateur), Tunisia and held in Camp No. 98 on Sicily, March-May 1943 where he was forced to work although his wound was still open; Camp No. 53 on mainland Italy, May-September 1943; Camp 7A in Austria, September-November 1943, and Camp 17A in Austria, November 1943-April 1945. Employed at Schutzen, working on the railways, July 1944-March 1945. Eyre was discharged on ceasing to fulfil army physical requirements, 5 March 1946.
