Private Patrick Cavanagh was taken prisoner at Spion Kop, 24 January 1900; released from POW camp, 6 June 1900. He was killed in action at Holland Farm, Transvaal, on 19 December 1901, whilst serving with the 14th Mounted Infantry. He was buried in Ermelo cemetery.
