An interesting presentation shin-gunto, the 67.5cm unsigned blade (several chips to edge) probably Koto, o-suriage tang two mekugi-ana wild midare hamon, in full military pattern mounts, the top mount with signs of the removal of a silver mon, the metal saya now wrapped with a wide silver band neatly engraved with the regimental badge of the 16th. Punjab Regiment and ‘In memory of Major L. Williams, killed in action at Tamandu Pass, 6th. March 1945, from the officers and men of 7th. Bn. 16th. Punjab Regt.’ the saya additionally fitted with two slender silver bands retaining the remains of silver hanging chains £500-550
Major Leslie Williams, is buried in Taukkyan War Cemetery. The sword was presumably presented to the next of kin of Major Williams by his old regiment.
