Frank Edward Womersley was born in Halifax, England on 3 June 1888. A Druggist by occupation and a former member of the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment, he attested for overseas service with the C.A.M.C. at Winnipeg on 13 November 1914. He proceeded to England in April 1915 and to France in September 1915 where he was posted to the 4th Field Ambulance. Womersely was discharged to commission in the C.A.M.C. in June 1916; latterly served as a Major. Womersley served in Mesopotamia with ‘Dunsterforce’.
