The Northumberland Yeomanry entered France on 6 October 1914 as Divisional Cavalry to the 7th Infantry Division.

Cyril John Robertson was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne on 9 June 1895, the son of John Robertson, Vicar of Acklington Parish Church (1903-25), and Eleanor Jane Robertson. He was educated at Charterhouse. As a Private in the Northumberland Yeomanry, he entered into the France/Flanders theatre of war on 5 October 1914. He was commissioned into the 315 (1st Northumbrian) Brigade R.F.A. on 14 July 1915. Awarded the M.C. (
London Gazette 1 January 1918). Robertson relinquished his commission on 30 September 1921. He died at Gosforth on 20 December 1949.
