Lionel Joseph Briggs Harrison was born in Gibraltar on 27 July 1895, the son of Joseph Thornton Harrison, Barrister-at-Law and his wife Harriet Ellen. Educated at Bedford Grammar School, member of the O.T.C., he matriculated at London University in February 1912 and commenced studies to become a Solicitor. He was gazetted a 2nd Lieutenant in the 5th (Territorial) Battalion Sherwood Foresters on 18 October 1913. Promoted to Lieutenant in June 1915 and Captain in August 1916. He was called up on mobilisation on 5 August 1914, served in France/Flanders from February 1915, transferring to the 1st Battalion in September 1916. He was wounded at Essarta in March 1917 and invalided home. Returning back to France, he was attached to the 16th Battalion (Chatsworth Rifles) in July 1917 and was killed in action at Proyart on 27 March 1918 while in temporary command of the battalion. Aged 22 years at the time of his death. He was buried in the Heath Cemetery, Harbonnieres. With copied research and copied photograph.
