James Robert Ralston Ainslie served in the Great War as a Corporal in the 1st County of London Yeomanry. In 1926 he entered service with the Royal Household. He was awarded the R.V.M. on 1 January 1941 as Steward at Buckingham Palace and was awarded the Royal Household Faithful Service Medal in 1946. Ainslie went on to claim his 30 year service clasp to his medal in 1956 and died in 1981, aged 89 years.

Sold with a folder containing a large quantity of original documentation. Including a photograph of the recipient wearing some of his medals; an invitation card for the Dedication of the King George VI Memorial Chapel, Windsor; and a ‘Balmoral Castle’ letter of condolence to his next-of-kin, dated 14 August 1981.
