S. P. W. Thorp served in the Royal Engineers, June 1982-August 1992. With them he served overseas on Ascension Island, November 1983; Falkland Islands, November 1983-April 1984 and May-September 1986; Canada, May-August 1985; Germany, October 1986-March 1988; December 1988-October 1990, and March-November 1991. He served in Operation Granby - Liberation of Kuwait, October 1990-March 1991.

The medals mounted in a glass-fronted wooden case, 34 x 28cm., which also contains a Saudi banknote; middle eastern coinage (5) and a photograph of the recipient. Also with the case for the Saudi medal and the recipient’s camouflage hat which is inscribed in ink, ‘Thorp 983 RE’; together with copied certificate of discharge.
