Ghuznee 1839, reverse engraved (Lieutt. Robt. D. Campbell, 4th Light Dragoons) replacement silver straight bar suspension, edge bruising, contact marks, nearly very fine £700-900

Robert Dennistown Campbell was commissioned a Cornet by Purchase in the 4th Light Dragoons on 22 October 1833. He became a Lieutenant by Purchase in March 1835. As such he served in Afghanistan under Lord Keane, and was present at the siege and capture of Ghuznee (Medal). In June 1842 he purchased a Captaincy in the 71st Highland Light Infantry. In June 1854 he was awarded the brevet of Major and was promoted to that rank in December the same year. He landed in the Crimea during 1855 and served with the 71st Regiment in the trenches at the siege of Sebastopol and was present at its fall (Medal and clasp). Campbell purchased the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 71st Highland Light Infantry in October 1857.
