Richard III (1483-1485), Penny, London, type 2b, mm. boar’s head on obv. only, no marks by neck or on rev., 0.84g/11h (N 1684; S 2165). Slightly small of flan, otherwise nearly very fine, excessively rare £6,000-8,000
Among the items stolen in February 1962 from the premises of B.A. Seaby was a Richard III London Penny which at the time was unique. To this day, it has not been recovered. A few years ago a low grade specimen was discovered and sold at auction. The present piece is from the same obverse die as the Seaby coin and is arguably in better condition.
