Joseph Sheppard was born in Hinton, Wiltshire, lived in Pewsey, Wiltshire, and enlisted at Swindon. Serving with the 1st Battalion Wiltshire Regiment, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 22 August 1914. He died on 18 September 1914, aged 32 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the La Ferte-sous-Jouarre Memorial, Seine-et-Marne, France. He was the son of David and Hannah Sheppard. Clasp confirmed.
