‘To Richard Williams, a boatman, a Silver Medal, for jumping into the river from the George’s Pier-head, and rescuing a boy who had fallen in and was nearly drowned, on the 9th of April, 1874, in a rough sea. This rescue was very gallantly effected, and it is the third life Williams has saved’ (Extract from the L.S. & H.S. Annual Report, July 1874).
