John Ryan was born in Plymouth, lived in Blackpool and enlisted at Seaforth, Liverpool. As a Corporal in the 2nd Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 13 November 1914. As a Warrant Officer Class 2 with the same battalion, he was killed in action on 24 September 1918. With copied m.i.c. which shows entitlement to clasp for 1914 Star.
