Kings of Mercia, Coenwulf (796-821), Penny, Gp I, London, non-portrait type, Pe[n]dwine, coenvvl[f] rex f m in three lines, rev. pedwine around double Latin cross, pellets in field, 1.15g/8h (cf. BLS 2; N 341; S 912A). A little creased and the surfaces somewhat porous, otherwise nearly very fine, excessively rare

Provenance: Found near Alfriston (E. Sussex).

Pedwine or Pendwine is apparently unpublished for the coins of Gp I, although Pendwine is noted as striking the substantive Tribrach type. The extraordinary Latin cross reverse design is also unpublished in the main references, although a second, badly damaged, specimen has been reported
