The Huguenot La Touche family were bankers to many Irish aristocrats in the 18th and 19th centuries. The bank ceased issuing its own paper currency after 1797, although some Post Bills survive. David Digges La Touche (1729-1817) was the first governor of the Bank of Ireland in 1783
