Three: Captain E. L. Stainbank, Royal Engineers

Edward Lloyd Stainbank was born in 1889. Educated at St. Edward’s School, Oxford; King’s College School, Wimbledon, and the Crystal Palace School of Engineering. Served before the war as a Civil Engineer in India. In the war he enlisted in the Universities and Public Schools Brigade and was commissioned in the Royal Engineers in March 1915. He proceeded to Malta in July 1915, attached to the 2/1st City of London Regiment and in August he was ordered to Mudros serving under the Director of Works. In January 1916 he was transferred to Egypt and ended the war as a Captain. Postwar, he was an Assistant Engineer on the Uganda Railway, 1921-24, and was later employed with the railways in Spain, flood protection in Greece, and from 1934, with the Kent Rivers Catchment Board. Later he was employed as an Assistant Engineer with MacDonald & Partners and lived at 22 Thorpe Avenue, Tonbridge, Kent. Sold with some copied research.
