During the Great War, Kenneth John Wilson was granted a commission, from being a Cadet, as a 2nd Lieutenant on probation in the East Anglian Divisional Cyclist Company T.F. With the Army Cyclist Corps he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war as a Lieutenant on 30 April 1917. He subsequently served as an Acting Captain. For his services he was mentioned in General Sir Herbert Plumer’s despatch of 18 April 1918. Lieutenant Wilson resigned his commission on 30 September 1921, retaining the rank of Lieutenant. Entering (or returning to) a career in the Civil Service, he was employed in the National Savings Movement. He was ranked as an Executive Officer in 1930 and by 1946 was a Commissioner.
