Nelson Gray Clark was born in Gwelo in May 1924 and enlisted in the Southern Rhodesia Forces towards the end of 1942, being appointed a Trooper in the Southern Rhodesia Reconnaissance Regiment. But he did not go overseas until September 1943, when he transferred to 1/6th Field Regiment, S.A.A., in which unit he served in Italy. Clark returned to South Africa in January 1946, all but his Africa Service Medal being issued unnamed by the Rhodesian authorities; sold with copied service records.
