Herbert E. Purssord, who enlisted in the Rifle Brigade in February 1909, first entered the French theatre of war with the 4th Battalion in late December 1914, but was discharged in September of the following year as a result of wounds, and awarded the Silver War Badge (his MIC entry refers).
