This lot was sold as part of a special collection, The Collection of Medals to the Cheshire and Manchester Regiments, Rifle Brigade and Royal Green Jackets formed by the late David Boniface.

John William Brennan, who was born in Warrington, Lancashire, but resident at Lower Broughton, Salford when he enlisted, was killed in action in the 2nd Battle of Ypres on 26 April 1915, while serving in the 4th Battalion, Rifle Brigade. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial; the National Roll of Honour for Salford lists him as having died of wounds.
