William Booth, who was born in Hyde, Cheshire, was killed in action on the Somme on 13 November 1916, while serving in the 1/6th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment - his unit sustained 275 casualties in a dawn attack on St. Pierre Divion. Booth was 20 years of age, has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
