‘The Silver Medal of the Society has been awarded to four boatmen belonging to the Lazarettes, and two other boatmen for saving Messrs. Crewe and Taunton, who, with three other gentlemen, were upset in a racing gig, on 27th April, in the river; the other gentlemen were unfortunately drowned before assistance could reach them’ (Ref. Society’s 3rd Annual Report, year ending 1 July 1842). Note different date.
