Although there is not enough of the legend visible to positively identify the mint or moneyer, this piece is closely related to that previously thought to be a Lincoln issue by Mack and Mossop. However, the late Antony Gunstone, inSCBI Lincolnshire, proferred an alternative suggestion that the coin discussed by Mack and Mossop, SCBI Lincs. 951, was the product of the moneyer Godwine, bearing the London mint-signature. Certainly, what is left of the legend on this cut halfpenny might well suggest London as the place of issue and Godwine as the moneyer responsible. A corollary is that the coin is believed to have originally surfaced with a Lincolnshire dealer in 1989
