John Francis Sutton was born on 12 September 1969. He enlisted into the Royal Army Ordnance Corps at Catterick on 6 January 1992 and after the amalgamation of corps in April 1993 he served in the Royal Logistics Corps. With the Corps he served in Bosnia, October 1992-April 1993, on attachment to the Cheshire Regiment based at Vitez, and in Germany, July-October 1992, April-September 1993 and October 1993-April 1995. Private Sutton was discharged from the R.L.C. on 8 March 1996 after completing his period of service. His Certificate of Service stated that he was employed as a Petroleum Operator and that he had attended a Police Familiarisation course. On 13 May 1997 he enlisted into the Royal Air Force. Training for the R.A.F. Police, he was awarded the Provost Marshal Baton for the Best Recruit on the Police Training Course. With the R.A.F. Police he was posted initially to R.A.F. College Cranwell, he then served at the Prince Sultan Air Base, Saudi Arabia, May-September 1999, for which service he was awarded the Air Operations Iraq clasp. Corporal Sutton was discharged at his own request on 1 February 2001.

Medal box of issue; R.A.F. cap with badge; a pair of cloth R.A.F. Police rank tabs and R.A.F. Certificate of Weapon Qualification. Also with a quantity of copied service papers, including Oath of Allegiance; Army School of Mechanical Transport Signaller (Support Services) Certificate; N.A.T.O. Medal bestowal document; Certificate of Discharge (1996); Certificate of Service (R.L.C.); Certificate of Service in Saudi Arabia; an R.A.F. Appraisal Form; R.A.F. Discharge/Transfer to Reserve Certificate and a number of photocopied photographs (both Army and R.A.F. periods) - most with comments written by the recipient.
