Charles Harry William Gray served in the ranks of the R.A.M.C. from 1910 to 1931 when he became a Warrant Officer. He was commissioned a Lieutenant (Quarter Master) on 21 December 1939 and promoted to Captain in April 1942. He was appointed Acting Major in January 1942 and Temporary Major in April that year, being promoted to that rank in July 1947. He was placed on Retired Pay on 12 September 1952 and died on 9 February 1954. Sold with original certificate from the C-in-C. Middle East Forces to Major C. H. W. Gray, R.A.M.C., dated January 1946, reading, ‘As Commander-in-Chief, Middle East Forces, I award you this Certificate in token of my appreciation of the outstandingly good service which you have rendered. I have given instructions that this shall be noted in your Record of Service’. Also with a newspaper cutting announcing his retirement.
