A late Georgian officer’s mameluke, the 76cm curved flat solid back-edged blade by J Cooper, etched with stands of arms, fame etc within ornate foliate scrolls and within ribbon ‘J.Coopers warranted’ plain steel mounts, cross-guard with recurved quillons the foremost pierced for a chain guard now lacking, shield shaped langets, polished ebony grips with foliate steel rosettes, complete with its steel mounted scabbard with simple linear decoration, neat restoration to upper part of ebony grips blade a little rubbed otherwise good condition £450-500

The maker is presumably John Cooper of Bartholomew Street, Birmingham is recorded circa 1815-1820.
