John Thomas Johnson was born in 1858 and was commissioned a Quartermaster and Honorary Lieutenant in the H.L.I. in December 1895. He served with the 2nd battalion on the the N.W. Frontier under Sir William Lockhart, 1897-98, and took part in the operations of the Malakand and Buner Field Forces and was present at the attack and capture of the Tanga Pass. He died in St. Helier, Jersey on 29 December 1903 due to a malignant disease of the liver.
