William Munro served as a Hospital Assistant during the campaign in Spain and at Corunna from 6 September 1808 until 15 February 1809, when he was appointed as Assistant Surgeon to the 25th Foot. He became Surgeon to the 8th West India Regiment in June 1815 but went on half pay in January 1817. He exchanged to full pay as Surgeon to the 35th Foot in November 1821 and was appointed to the Staff in January 1826, becoming Deputy Inspector-General in December 1848, and Inspector General in June 1855. He died sometime prior to April 1861 and was the father of Surgeon General William Munro, C.B.
