Robert Gordon Henderson was appointed Assistant Superintendent of Police in Nigeria in 1929, gained advancement to Superintendent in 1944 and was awarded his Colonial Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 1947. Promoted to Assistant Commissioner in 1949, his final appointment in Nigeria was as ‘Commissioner of the Northern Region’, following which he became Commissioner of Police in Bermuda.
