Lieutenant Watmough served with the 2nd battalion and was killed in action at Monchy on 1 September 1918. During the operation to retake Stipe Copse and St. Servin's Farm, the 'Duke's' took 45 prisoners, including 2 officers, and captured 9 enemy machine guns and 1 field gun.
