Alfred Henry Hooper was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the Middlesex Regiment on 18 April 1900 and promoted Lieutenant on 19 September 1900 and Captain on 30 May 1905. During the Boer War he served in the Transvaal, May-July 1901 and August 1901-May 1902, in the Orange River Colony during May 1901 and Cape Colony, July-August 1901.
